When it comes to buying wine online there are a few large but many small wine vendors which are selling wine through their own online shops. This creates a fragmented market of individual online shops with a small but nonetheless exclusive offering. The goal for us was therefore to build an engine that aggregates wines from different vendors and allows the user to compare prices and even order directly on VinoFinder through a unified buying experience. Another key feature was to develop a powerful search engine that delivers personalized results for users and dynamically finds the best results according to usage data. For vendors on the other hand VinoFinder would make it easy and effortless to show and sell offers on VinoFinder.
Working closely with the technical of VinoFinder was critical in order to achieve a fast, accurate and scalable search experience with dynamic search suggestions. The project required a powerful multi-vendor commerce layer to the application that allows users to seamlessly shop for wines from different vendors, while our goal was to maintaining the feel of a single-checkout experience.
With trends showing mobile web traffic at 50% and above of the overall traffic, there was not question that the entire front-end exprience would consist of responsive interface that does not one bit compromise when compared to the desktop experience. This also means that we made little to now use of heavy image files and instead achieved the vibrance of the interface by creating nearly all elements in CSS3 that load noticeably faster. We further used HTML5 animated interactions and overlays, making the use of the website on a mobile device feel close to a native experience.
